Stefan Egger

Stefan engaged in international research and developed a method for the design of graphical content to function in demanding, risk laden environments (like roads) and people with low vision with predictable, improved effectivity. This, together with the understanding of research on the comprehensibility of graphical symbols led to participation in several bodies (excerpt):

  • United Nation’s Group of Experts on Road Signs and Signals (GE.2)

  • Austrian Standard Institute (ASI), Committees on Public Information K133 and Variable Message Signs K211

  • Austrian Research Association for Roads, Railways and Transport (FSV), AAStB10 Group on Road Signs

Stefan created and invented (LED) road signs for law StVO, the United Nations and the Autobahn / introduced visual inclusion to Standard A 3012 / led the development of ‘Tern’, official typeface for road signs in Austria and Slovakia / created Tern Symbols. He lectures at Vienna University of Technology and ASI.
